Tall Girl Problems

Kendra, 17 years old, 5'10.5

For all the beautiful tall girls and the problems we have to endure. Through all the teasing, feeling out of place & short hems, I'm finally coming to a point where I realized that there's nothing wrong with being a little different. People still try to tear me down about it but there will always be people doing that. These problems are mostly to make you laugh & go "OH MY GOD. THAT'S MY LIFE." But this is more than just a place to share each other's problems. It's a support group where we encourage girls to see the beauty within them (so play nice, ladies). Ask me anything & feel free to submit!

"You're only as tall as your heart will let you be and you're only as small as the world will make you seem."

Girls, it doesn’t get easier- but you do get more comfortable with yourselves!

I’m a 6’2” 28yr old woman. I was taller than my teachers when I entered high school. I jokingly got nicknamed The Amazon by some of my friends, but I was so self conscious of my height that I used to slouch horribly so I’d be more at my friend’s levels. After I graduated high school I went into the Navy and went to a ship. By the way, did you know the beds on ships are only meant for 6ft tall people? And the door ways will give your forehead bruises because they’re meant for >6ft people? I actually got a large cut on my forehead when I went running through the halls once and forgot to duck when I went through a doorway. But you know what? Even if you have a hard time finding jeans with more inseam, or dresses that actually sweep the floor romantically instead of graze your pale knees- you are unique, and sexy, and even if you get made fun of for being tall, remind them it’s better than licking the dust off everyone else’s shoes. It’s better than sheepishly begging for help to reach a can at the top of the grocery store. It’s better when you’re on the trains in Japan and you’re taller than everyone else, so while they’re breathing their own stank breath, you get the fresh a/c coming from above. (Heh heh heh…) You have the long beautiful legs shorter women will sigh over. You have long elegant fingers more suited for playing guitar, piano, violin, and tons of other musical instruments than your shorter comrades with fat, stubby fingers. Your neck is long and will look gorgeous draped with necklaces or a scarf.

Remember, you have the advantage here. Let them pick on you- it comes from their own insecurities and jealousy of your tall frame. You’ll stand out more in the minds of future employers than the shorter ones will. Embrace your tallness. Find the value in it. And, most importantly, use it to help the little old ladies at the store in the roving chairs who need assistance reaching the can of beans on the top shelf, and hear them coo, “It must be so nice being tall!”
