Tall Girl Problems

Kendra, 17 years old, 5'10.5

For all the beautiful tall girls and the problems we have to endure. Through all the teasing, feeling out of place & short hems, I'm finally coming to a point where I realized that there's nothing wrong with being a little different. People still try to tear me down about it but there will always be people doing that. These problems are mostly to make you laugh & go "OH MY GOD. THAT'S MY LIFE." But this is more than just a place to share each other's problems. It's a support group where we encourage girls to see the beauty within them (so play nice, ladies). Ask me anything & feel free to submit!

"You're only as tall as your heart will let you be and you're only as small as the world will make you seem."

Perspcetive from an old woman :)

I found this site just a couple of days ago and am LOVING IT!  How I wish there had been something like this when I was in school.

Girls, I am 50 years old and 6’0” tall.  And I’m here to tell you that it gets better and usually (as someone else posted) when you get out of high school.  After that you will learn that most people begin to mature(at least the ones that actually do something with their lives) and the rest simply don’t matter.

As for clothes, let me tell you it is SOSOSO much better now than back in the 70’s & 80’s.  Today’s styles are much more eclectic and give us more choices.  Yes, it is still tricky but I urge you to find the style that YOU like and just go with it!  My 22 year old daughter is 6’1” and gorgeous.   She TOTALLY ROCKS 4” to 5” heels on a daily basis because - uh - turns out - THAT’S WHAT SHE LIKES!  She has had many boyfriends in the past several years and it has been fun to watch them together.  They have all been from average to short height and it never mattered to any of them.  In fact, anytime any of them would walk with her somewhere they would either hold her hand or have an arm around her waist and literally strut (it was funny to me to watch them) because they were proud to be seen with her and say she was their girlfriend.

I don’t have all the answers to all the clothes questions.  But I can promise you, the other inconveniences (desks, rude comments, car seats, etc) seriously become just that - inconveniences.  People will generally respond to you however you present yourself.  If you are confident, hold you head up, nice and have a sense of humor then they will treat you as the queen you are.  And as you age, you will learn to LOVE the advantage you have over them.  BTW - studies show that all things being equal, the taller women will come out ahead in the job hunt if she shows confidence.  One of the best things my 5’11” mother taught me?  “A tall women can get away with murder if she just ACTS like she knows what she’s doing”  :)

Hold your heads up, enjoy the camaraderie that you get on this blog, keep hunting for long pants, let us all know when you find cute shoes and STRUT YOUR STUFF!!
